All you need to know about tooth extractions.

Extraction

Although permanent teeth were meant to last a lifetime, there are a number of reasons why tooth extraction may be needed. A very common reason involves a tooth that is too badly damaged, from trauma or decay to be repaired.

Other reasons for tooth extraction may include;

·        Crowded mouth

·        Infection

·        Risk of Infection

 Before pulling the tooth, your dentist will give you an injection of a local anaesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. This will help reduce the level of pain.

If the tooth is impacted, the dentist will cut away gum and bone tissue that cover the tooth and then, using forceps, grasp the tooth and gently rock it back and forth to loosen it from the jaw bone and ligaments that hold it in place. Sometimes a hard-to-pull tooth must be removed in pieces.

Benefits of tooth Extraction

·      Protecting Surrounding teeth. If you’re dealing with a tooth infection, your entire smile is at risk. For instance, if you ignore an infection, it will only continue to progress and worsen over time, which may lead to the spread of that infection throughout your mouth. You can easily protect surrounding healthy tissues by choosing a tooth extraction.

·    Protecting your comfort. Are you dealing with severe discomfort as a result of an infected tooth? With a tooth extraction, the source of your discomfort is removed and you can enjoy your life daily.
